The Test Structure and The 4 Skills.

In the IELTS there are 2 types of exams academic and general training. In both speaking and listening are similar and the writing and reading differs. IELTS can be given in pen and paper or in computer based exam. 

Exam are conducted in 2 days. The speaking test on one day and rest three skills on other day. Speaking test will be only 20 minutes and writing, reading, listening total time is 3 hour.

The 4 Parts and Its Duration

Listening test: 30 minutes (with 10 minutes transfer time)

Reading test: 60 minutes

Writing test: 60 minutes

Speaking: 20 minutes

Listening – In this section you have 4 components and each parts have 10 questions that's total 40 questions and 1 mark for each questions.

Reading –Here there are three sections and total 40 questions and carries 1 mark for each questions. The reading texts are coming  from books, journals, magazines, newspapers, and online resources that are written for non-specialist audiences.

Writing – In this skill there will be 2 tasks to be completed in 1 hour. Task 1 for academic it will be bar, pie chart etc which we need to describe and in general it will be letters. For task 2 it will be essays where you need to make options, arguments. Task 2 will be same for GT and Academic.

Speaking – It's a  face-to-face interview. It contains 3 sections warmup, cue card and follow up. You'll get 2 minutes to speak the topic given in cue card and follow up will be related to cue card between the test taker and examiner. It contains sections like introduction and interview, giving task card about a particular topic and discussion relating to the theme.
